Test hopeful cleared to join squad after ill-timed injury

Cricket Australia has now confirmed the 28-year-old has been “able to bowl” throughout the week, clearing him to fly over to Sri lanka ahead of the first Test on January 29.

Kuhnemann will join the squad over the weekend.

He missed Australia’s training sessions at the ICC academy in Dubai during the week, as he was forced to stay home to allow his hand to heal.

In the meantime, Kuhnemann, who has three Test caps to his name has been involved in an Australia XI against an England Lions side.

Kuhnemann will also wear a protective covering on his right thumb, which is his non-bowling hand.

Cricket Australia also confirmed young Victorian batter Oliver Peake has been invited to join the squad as a development player.

He will fly over with Kuhnemann.
