Vikramaditya Motwane started his direction career by assisting ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali during Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas. While the former starred Salman Khan in the lead role, the latter had Shah Rukh Khan playing the titular character. In a recent interview, the Lootera filmmaker recalled his experience of working with King Khan and shared how the actor’s mind works round the clock, irrespective of the situation he is in.
In a conversation with The Lallantop, Vikramaditya Motwane called Shah Rukh Khan ‘magnificent’ and said, “I will tell you one incident about the actor. We were shooting the climax of Devdas where Shah Rukh’s character dies while Aishwarya comes running to him. Shah Rukh was lying down under a tree. Suddenly, he asked one of the assistants if we could get him some honey. We were all clueless. Yet, we brought it to him. When we did, he took some of it and applied over his face.”
He explained, “He did it to get flies on his face, like flies are sitting on a dying man’s face. This was completely his idea.” The filmmaker said that it is usually the duty of a director to think of things that can enhance a scene, but Shah Rukh Khan never shies away from making changes to improve a scene. He added, “The man’s mind is constantly working to think how he can make the moment better. And that is Shah Rukh Khan. He does very small things in films that make great difference. Plus, he makes everybody feel very special.”

Vikramaditya has often praised Shah Rukh Khan. Previously, during Himalayan Film Festival, the AK vs AK filmmaker said, “Every film can’t be Jawan or Pathaan. You can’t replace SRK and that experience with some other actor, and expect same result. It’s a moment in time with SRK, and those films that’s happening.”
