It was a carnage at Jaipur yesterday as 14 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi thumped 11 maximums and 7 boundaries as Gujarat Titans bowlers were smashed to all corners of the park in a run chase of 209 runs as the IPL world came to a standstill shell shocked by the young man’s talent. Significantly, the youngster was not even born when some of Gujrat Titans bowlers against whom he came up yesterday were playing cricket at this level.
Mohd Siraj thumped for 24 in 2 overs, Ishant Sharma cartered for 36 in 2 overs, Washington Sundar daylights taken out of him 34 in 1.5 overs, Prasad Krishna told to go and fetch his balls from the boundary 1 scalp for 42 runs, the only man spared was Rashid Khan 1 for 24 in his 4 overs.
A partnership of 166 runs in 11.5 overs with Jaiswal 70 not out, and Suriyavansie 101 lit the night skies of Jaipur as Rajasthan Royals lamenting in the 7th place in the points table reached the target in 15.3 overs whilst the bashing of the Titans bowlers will hurt their moral big time.
Batting first, Gujarat Titans with their top three had a usual day in office. Sai Sudharshan 39 , Shubman Gill 84 in 50 balls and Jos the boss 50 in 26 deliveries a script not unusual.
Titans opened their partnership of 93 runs in 10.2 overs with Mahesh Theekshana spoiling the party sending back Sudharshan for 39 and Shubman Gill dismissed in the 17th over for 84 with the score on 167. Jos Buttler stood his ground with his unbeaten 50 to guide the Titans past the 200 mark, basically 208 for 4 wickets, definitely a par score taking into consideration Rajasthan Royals row of defeats due to poor run building at the top and an appalling finish line intent in death overs.
Rajasthan Royals bowlers had an ordinary day in the park. Archer was expensive 1 for 49, Theekshana 2 for 35, and Sandeep Sharma 1 for 33. Hasaranga bowled well wicket less for 34 in 4 overs, hence 209 for RR as a target did not look herculean except the strong Gujarat Titans bowling headed by Rashid Khan, Mohamed Siraj and Prasad Krishna are all thorns among any well blossomed row of Roses.
In short, the party not only came to an early finish from a Titans’ viewpoint, but Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Jaiswal nightmare gave them a post night sleep having to cope with dreams of looking so mediocre in the park by coming second best by a mile.
